On the last day in DC, we spent it walking the mall and looking at the monuments and the outside of the Capitol. I love this place!
Future Senator!
Levi was there too! 🙂
The National Museum of American History was just recently redone, so we wanted to go through and look. It was so packed, so we didn’t stay in there long. The big exhibits had a 30 minute wait and that was not going to fly with my boys. 🙂 But we did see the newest exhibit…The Star Spangled Banner. (Go ahead at this point in my blog and start singing Lee Greenwood’s Proud to be an American in your head while reading) It was so awesome. It was the actual Star Spangled Banner from 1814. The one that flew in Baltimore and inspired our National Anthem to be written. I had this incredible feeling of nostalgia while looking at it. I was looking at a major piece of our Country’s history. Knowing that men and women sacrificed so that we could have what we have today…
If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘ Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
Ok….moving on…we got to visit some other friends of our the Hanks. This is Sarah and Wesley (Dustin and Hanks Baby on the way- not pictured) and they are the sister/in law and nephew to Luke and Patty our dear friends at our church. The Hanks live right there on the Hill and they go to the church I used to attend while living there. NCC aka…National Community Church. An awesome church that meets in movie theatres in the DC area. I went to the one that met in Union Station’s theatre. If you are ever there over a Sunday…you should check out there church! In the last few years, they have also built a coffee shop called Ebenezer’s where they also hold Saturday church. We did get to have coffee, but didn’t get to stay for church.
