In youth group growing up I learned the A.C.T.S. acronym to remember how to pray.
A- Adoration
C- Confession
T- Thanksgiving
S- Supplication
I have never forgotten this acronym…to always shower the Lord with worship and praise, to confess my mistakes and wrongdoings, to thank Him for the many blessings, and then to ask for my needs.
Well, Scott and I have been praying with Seth ever since he was born. We like to call it praying with an eternal purpose. While pregnant, we heard a speaker Tommy Nelson, talk about praying prayers with eternal value… so our kids will come to understand it early on. Like when you are blessing your food, you can also thank God for sending His son Jesus to die on the cross, etc. Well, we thought that was a great idea… because kids pick up on so many things and we want our children to know we serve an Awesome God!
Since Seth is able to talk more now, we are teaching him to pray with an eternal purpose too!
We use the A.C.T.S. acronym to do this. First, we thank God for sending His son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. Then the acronym starts…
Adoration- “Praise you”
Confession- “I am sorry to you”
Thanksgiving- “Thank you”
Supplication- This part I change from time to time and we pray for family members, etc. But Scott and I want to start early teaching our children the importance of loving others and developing a heart for missions…so we use the phrase. “Love the world.”
This has to be one of my most favorite parts of the day. I wish you could see Seth on the video with his little hands folded. It often brings tears to my eyes to hear his sweet little voice praying to His heavenly father.
Enjoy…
