We have had a rather busy October with being in India, new adjustments for our family, and just the day to day stuff that comes up in our family. We normally head to a pumpkin patch each year, but it didn’t happen for us this year. Instead, we did something we have not done yet, and we really enjoyed it.
We simply bought pumpkins at Walmart and let the kids decorate them, and we carved them. Scott and I were talking, we don’t think either of us have ever carved a pumpkin ourselves.
Our favorite part was watching the kids enjoy themselves. Again, everything is always a first time experience for Lyla, but it sort of was a first time for all of us.
After pumpkin decorating, we ate BBQ and Scott made a fire pit for some S’mores…another big hit with the kids.
That night was a good reminder that even simple things are fun! All that matters is we were all together! I love my fun large family!
We put out several colors for the kids to paint the pumpkins with, but everything was taken over by black. 🙂 And I mean… EVERYTHING! They painted themselves, they painted the tables, they painted their chairs, the ground….EVERYTHING!
Daddy got in to the carving!
One of my favorite parts of carving pumpkins… roasted seeds! now we have a bunch to do ourselves! My friend Becca made some last week with maple and sugar on them….so good!
And the paint took over… good thing it was washable!
Seth suggested painting the whole pumpkin black, because “Jesus is the light shining through the darkness” his words not mine! 🙂
Traditional Jack-o-lantern
Lyla’s first Halloween…Joel’s too, but he was napping at that time
Lyla having BBQ for the first time. Notice how she took one half of her bun and used it like Indian Roti…pinching the meat between the bread. 🙂

Admiring our work… The boys painted the P black for Parkisons shining Jesus’ light in the darkness! 🙂
My Mom bought us this funny thing to put inside our Jack-o-lantern. It talks and lights up when people walk by… super cute and fun! The kids have tested it out at least a hundred times. 🙂
