Just Pitiful!

It all started on Valentines. Actually, both boys have had a cold for a week. But on Monday, Levi grabbed his ear and said “hurt”.

I took him to the doctor and he confirmed he had an ear infection in both ears, one ear worse than the other…got an antibiotic and Levi immediately seemed on the up and up.
Tuesday…we go to the Rec Center, so I can work out and the boys play…I go to pick them up and Levi has thrown up 4 times. He continues to vomit about every 20 minutes for the next few hours. I knew there had been a stomach bug going around, but I had concerns he might be having some reaction to the medicine. I drove to the town’s local hospital and we went in as an out patient, just to double check that it was not an allergic reaction.
The doctor did not think it was an allergic reaction. His ears were looking a ton better in one day, but the doctor said his chest did not sound clear. He also had him tested for the flu…since that is going around like crazy as well. And, since his lungs weren’t clear they did a chest x-ray.
As we sat in our room, I anticipated them coming back and saying…he has the stomach virus, just wait it out.
The results kind of shocked me, especially Scott…Levi had bi-lateral pneumonia and strep throat. They wanted to admit him in the hospital because he had not been holding anything down all day, not even a sip of water. They were afraid he couldn’t keep his meds in, in order to fight the pneumonia.
So we went ahead and admitted him. Let me go ahead and point some other information out to you…
Levi had been lethargic and lifeless ever since I picked him up from the rec center. He had been vomiting about every 20 minutes, and was just all out pitiful! I would ask him, do you want a popsicle? No. Do you want something to drink? No. All Levi would ask for is… “I wan see Seffy.” He just wanted his brother… precious.
After I made the decision to admit him, Scott comes up to the hospital with some items for me and for Levi…(he had been keeping Seth with him at the office all afternoon) Seth walks in the door and Levi suddenly perks up. He starts talking and wanting to get up and play with Seth.
We check into a hospital room and Levi still seems to be improving. They wanted to try to get him to eat something, so he ate some jello (Seth got some too!) and he kept it down. Then he got a popsicle and he kept it down. Which was a real sign of improvement to us. Then we decided to give him his first round of meds. We decided if he kept them down then we were going to check out, because we could give him the medicine at home.
He kept them down and we waited about another hour more just to be safe. We checked out and headed home.
Here are some shots of my little man in his hospital gown enjoying his second popsicle of the day. Seth was loving getting whatever Levi got too!

Scott shot this video…you can see why we thought Levi was doing much better and could go home.
Then we go home and that night Seth starts in with the croup… I also started feeling feverish and flu-like. I had chills and aches with a cough. It was very long day and night!
Our pediatrician also called and wanted to see Levi as a follow up, since we had checked out of the hospital…so we headed to Murfreesboro on Wednesday.
Levi was showing even more signs of improvement, and Seth got his meds for the croup, and he did not test positive for strep. I also went to the doctor and they gave me a few meds….but I did not test positive for the flu or strep. However, I kept feeling worse as the day went on. Levi seemed to improve and Seth was still struggling with his cough. Another long day and night.
Thursday, both boys seemed better…but I was now at my worst! I must have caught the stomach bug, because I was SICK!!! My friend, Janet came over and kept the boys so I could stay in the bed all day.
Today, I woke up and I feel soooo much better. Both boys seems to be doing better as well.
We were all a bunch of pitiful Parkisons this week…everyone except Scott! I am hoping he misses it completely!!!
