Manchester Mondays: Old Stone Fort

Old Stone Fort

This is an archaeological park right here in our town. I have driven by it before, but this weekend got the chance to picnic and walk through a little bit of the grounds.
The fort… which apparently is not really a fort… is an old American Indian ceremonial site. Some white settlers found it and thought it was a fort misnaming it Old Stone Fort. It is a stone wall surrounding a huge field. I glanced at the field/clearing from a distance, because I had the boys and everything was limited, but it looked beautiful.
There is tons to do and see here… In addition to seeing the stone enclosure, one can find the remains of a stagecoach road and several paper mills here. There is also incredible scenery… two rivers, cliffs, and several waterfalls. And for the history buff in you… a museum that explains it all.
As far as activities go… someone can hike, camp, canoe, fish, and even golf at the 9-hole course. There is also a place to picnic and play at a play ground.
And I have pictures to prove it in a blog post soon!
