In case some readers don’t know much about how the Parkison Family came to be…here it is. Scott and I met at church. (Taylors First Baptist) He came to work there as the Single Adult Minister and I had been a member at at TFBC since I was about 8 years old.
Right before he came, a woman from the search committee at TFBC called my mom and said, “The church is about to hire Kelly’s husband.” My mom and I just laughed about it, because people are always trying to set up singles. Well, when he came to TFBC for the first time and gave his testimony…I must admit I was impressed and not only that he was good looking!
As soon as the service was over, I walked down to the front of the church to meet him. I introduced myself, and made a slightly flirtatious comment to him about how he needed to look out for the older women in church, because they would be trying to set him up. Thinking in my head, that the woman from the search committee might have told him about me. (She hadn’t.) Scott looked me right in the eye and said, “I have a policy that I don’t date girls in my church.”
Immediately, I thought to myself…I can not believe it; this guy thinks I am hitting on him. So I walked away and told my Mom, it was never going to happen, because he has a policy. Several more women from the church tried many times to set us up, but nothing ever happened. Scott and I became good friends.
Then one day (2 1/2 yrs later)…We finally went on a date. As Dr. Harley at TFBC would say about the ladies at church trying to set us up, “their prayer life was stronger than Scott’s policy.”
We went out on our first date Dec. 27th 2004, got engaged exactly one year later. Married May 6, 2006. (Best day of my life- next to my salvation experience, of course!) One month later, we got a major deal on a little Yorkshire Terrier and named him Samson, because he will never be bigger than 8 lbs. and we didn’t want him to have a short complex…plus he grows long hair.
Then to our shock (especially mine) and excitement we found out in September we were expecting. It’s a little boy and after much debate we decided to name him Seth Austin Parkison. He is due May 18th, but I am hoping for sooner!
God is good…
