I can’t believe my little Katy Pierce is already one week old. These past 7 days have flown by!!!
We have not blogged much about this whole pregnancy, so I have a lot info to tell!
First off, this pregnancy was so drastically different then my other pregnancies. During the first trimester, I was super sick… Could hardly keep anything down and just felt horrible. With the boys I felt a little nauseous but never really got sick.
We found out in mid November what we were having but kept it a secret from our families. I will not forget being at the doctor and waiting to hear the results. You may know statistics show that after you have two children of the same sex that this is very likely you will have the same sex for your third child. So statistically, we should have had a boy. But because I had been so sick… I thought just maybe it would be a girl. Levi was with us, and the nurse asked him what do you think you are going to have a little sister or a little brother? Levi said brother. Then the nurse asked Scott and Scott said, “a son”. The nurse replies… “Well, your son is a daughter.” It took us both a second… but when it sunk in
Scott was so excited that he grabbed the nurse. He really wanted a little girl. We were all so excited!
We waited to tell our families at Thanksgiving. We told them in a very unique way… my parents had just moved to the lake, so we had everyone come down to the dock and we released balloons in pink to let them know we were having a little girl!!! But, I did stick some blue ones on top to be released first just to trick everyone and be funny. Once again everyone was excited!
Then Scott and I went on a mission trip with church to India. So, Katy Pierce became a world traveler. The doctor assured me we would be fine and it was a great time to travel. It really went smooth. Nothing really bothered me pregnancy wise.
Then I come home… Travel half way across the world and back to slip and fall on ice in Seth’s school parking lot. So we made the trip to the hospital to make sure everything was okay for the baby. She was just fine. They monitored me for a few hours and her, and we got released that day. I was just sore from the fall and little bruised.
A few weeks later… I started having severe cramps. It did not feel like labor, because it was in a very specific area in my lower abdomen. But I could feel her moving during the whole process, so I knew she had to be okay. Eventually I got to the point where I could not stand up, so we headed back to the hospital to be checked out. At the hospital they said I had started early labor and was dilating a little…which was not good for 29 weeks. But we were released later that day once they got the cramping to stop and informed me I would be on bed rest, but I was to see my doctor the next day.
When we got to the Doctor the next day, he felt I was not dilating, but he had some concerns about the cramping. So I went back home on moderate bed rest. This was new for me…since I had not ever been on bed rest with the boys before they were delivered.
I continued to have the severe cramps here and there in the same spot in my lower stomach. But they would go away after an hour or so… the doctor really couldn’t explain what it was, but he knew it was not harming the baby so we were ok.
We went ahead and scheduled a week early induction, since I usually have larger babies. So, April 4th became the big day! I just knew she was going to come early since we had all these complications… but nope she waited until the 4th.
I went off bed rest 2 weeks prior to the 4th, because the doctor said she would be fine if she was born then. So, I did everything I could in those two weeks to trigger labor, because I was so excited to get her here. I scrubbed floors, walked, ate spicy food, even jogged down my street… but nope she was determined to not come until she had too!
We had an ultra sound two weeks prior to the 4th as well, and it showed she weighed 8 pounds. So, I was planning on a big baby! I also began to dilate and efface, but still no signs of labor!
April 4th at 3:00 am, Daddy and I woke up, got ready, and drove to the hospital. We had to check in by 4:30 am. The nurses were wonderful at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro and I highly recommend that hospital!
They started the pitocin about 7:30, Dr. Chesney broke my water about 8:30, I got the epidural around 10. I had a few strange things happen with the epidural, but nothing too major.
Katy Pierce was born at 12:44 on 4-4-12. So, her time of birth will always be easy for me to remember! Grammy, Mimi, and Daddy were in the room. Aunt Courtney and our friend Renea Hamby were standing by with cameras to take pictures. Pops, Seth, and Levi were anxiously waiting in the lobby.
She came out looking so much like Levi, but with lots of dark hair. Absolutely precious and weighing 8lbs 7ozs. 19 1/2 inches long. My smallest baby. 🙂
Scott went out in the hall to tell the boys that Katy Pierce was finally here and Scott said they literally danced in the hall way. They were so precious when they walked in and saw her too. The boys wore Big Brother shirts given to them by Papa and Gigi.
Immediately Levi started calling her… “Katy Pierce… Katy Pierce” as he handed her two of his favorite trains. Seth just kept rubbing her head and telling her she was beautiful and he loved her so much. Then they realized she had not been bathed yet. So Seth was intrigued with why she had some blood on her and some other “yucky” stuff. He said… “She smells like blood mom.” It was funny.
Levi didn’t really want to get too close at that point, but he would talk to her, and he also tried to feed her a gum ball. 🙂
She then left the room and got all clean. When she came back… I could really see Levi in her even more.
This past week since we have been home… Katy Pierce really does nothing but eat, sleep, and poop. 🙂
She really does not cry very much. She only cries when she gets really hungry, or if you wake her up and she does not want to be bothered. The boys have continued to love on her and check on her. You can tell Levi is struggling a bit to figure out his new role in the family. He has been nothing but kind to her, but I can see he feels a little insecure. So, we have also worked hard to assure both boys that they are a vital part of this family too!
Mimi has been here and that has been a huge help. I have not lifted a finger to do anything house wise. She has taken care of it all, and she has been loving on the boys.
So… this was really long. But I wanted to make sure we got her whole story in!
