Sweet Sacrifice

This past Sunday night at church, I was reminded of a sweet story in the Bible about being generous.  It is the story of the Widow’s mite in the book of Luke.  This story was not the topic in a nursery class, or even Scott’s Sunday night teachings.  This story was fleshed out for me, as two precious girls approached me and handed me a $20 bill.
With smiling faces, they handed me the money and told me it was for my baby in India.  Their mother went on to explain that they had held a garage sale over the weekend and during the sale the girls sold baked goods and lemonade.  They talked it over with their parents and chose to give their profits to us to help with our adoption.  The mom remarked… “It is just a small amount, and won’t make a huge dent in your amount that’s needed”  But to me it was huge!  They gave all they had, especially when they could have bought toys and candy for them selves.
In the book of Luke, a destitute woman has only a few coins to her name and she gave selflessly to the church.  Jesus instructs his disciples that her offering was worth more, because she gave all she had versus those who give out of their own abundance.  She showed true faith in God, because she did not know where her next meal would come from, but she trusted He would provide.
These precious girls demonstrated biblical generosity and faith to me!  I just teared up, as I was reminded through their actions that God hears my prayers and He will provide!
