Ok ladies…I attended a Super Girls Conference last weekend. I learned something there that I was just mesmerized by- How to pack a suitcase, by Elisse Sorrow.
If you are like me, you always pack way too much stuff. And you end up taking more than one suitcase for a short trip. This session was awesome, because I saw you can still pack a lot, but there is a way to fit it all in one suitcase.
Elisse handed out a flyer with some good tips. I would love to share them with you and hopefully from some pictures you can see how to pack a suitcase more efficiently.
General tips:
- write down where you are going, how long you’ll be there, what activities are planned, and what the weather might be
- make a checklist and checkoff as you go
- choose 3-4 colors for coordination; at least 2 should be neutrals
- when layering in the suitcase, rotate clockwise; rotating in bulky items with shoulder pads or items like thick jackets
- carry several plastic bags for wet &/or dirty clothes/shoes
- place cardboard box top in bottom of suitcase if it’s uneven
- bring along shout wipes for quick cleanups
- tie a unique bag tag or ribbon on your suit case for easy identification
Packing the Suitcase:
Use the concept…”If I laid in my suitcase, my arms and legs would hang out!”
- begin to layer larger items beginning with: jackets, long skirts, and dresses. Followed by: pants/shorts and finishing with blouses and dressier shirts last.
- roll any remaining items that can be rolled like: t-shirts, athletic shorts, knit pants, underwear etc. Remember to roll bathing suits inside cover-ups. Also fold robe and pajamas in half; put your slippers in the middle, and then roll.
- Place a piece of plastic between clothes and shoes. Saran wrap works best.
- Place hosiery/socks inside shoes and put shoes either around edges before folding in layered items OR towards the bottom (when stood up) of the suitcase.
- Begin to fold layered clothes in clockwise
- Finish with belts around the outside.
Carry-on:
- Treat your carry-on as a purse
- cosmetic bag/personal care items
- small umbrella, camera
- antibacterial hand wash
- roll up a small nightgown
- roll an outfit that won’t wrinkle easily (knits are always good)
- roll a change of underwear
- any important papers or documents.
